How do I replace my existing driver’s licence with the new one?

(For applications submitted in manual forms)
The license holder will obtain an application form from the VIO/BIR representative at the licencing office. The applicant will complete the form and submit it to one of the FRSC officers who will capture the information on the form into the Drivers’ License application. The Applicant will then need to make payment for the application at a bank using an application id number which will be issued by the FRSC officer. Once payment has been made, the applicant will take the acknowledgement slip to the BIR officer in the licencing office for registration. The applicant will then proceed to the VIO officer in the licencing office for screening and approval. After this, an FRSC officer at the licencing office will capture the applicant’s biometric information and issue a temporary drivers’ license which will be valid for 60 days. The driver’s licence will be available for collection within the 60 day period.(For applications submitted electronically)

How long does it take to have my existing Driver’s Licence replaced with the new licence?

A temporary license (valid for 60 days) will be issued to you immediately you provide your biometric information. The Driver’s License will be ready upon the expiration of the temporary license.

I am a fresh applicant. What do I need to do to obtain the new Driver’s Licence?

Request from fresh applicants will only be processed from June 1, 2011. In the interim, fresh applicants should attend accredited driving schools, which will be required to sponsor all fresh applicants for the new Driver’s License.

What happens to Driver’s Licence that have recently expired, say in February 2011?

The validity of all licenses that expire between February and June 2011 has been extended till June 30, 2011.

Can I send somebody to an Information Processing Center with my passport photograph and other documents to process my licence application on my behalf?

All applicants MUST visit an Information Processing Center to have their biometric information captured. Passport photographs cannot be used to process the new drivers’ license.

After I supply my information, will I be able to change it later?

Some information (e.g. name) can be changed after it’s provided for the first time. However evidence of the change will need to be provided (e.g. marriage certificate). Information such as date of birth cannot be changed. This is why all information provided must be accurate.

How long will the new licence be valid for?

The license will be valid for three years. However, license holders between the ages of 18 and 25 and those above the age of 65 will have to take driving and vision tests every year.

How can I shorten the time I need to spend at an Information Processing Center as I’m extremely busy with work?

Applicants can visit www.nigeriadriverslicence.org to apply for licenses. Upon completion of the application form, applicants will be issued a unique Application Number. When an Applicant visits an Information Processing Center, he/ she can present the Application Number which will be used in retrieving the information which was provided online. This reduces the amount of time which the applicant needs to spend at an Information Processing Center.

I obtained the new drivers’ licence recently but I’ve since misplaced it. How can I obtain a replacement?

To replace a missing drivers’ license, visit a licencing office and provide your information. A temporary license will be issued to you and you will be able to collect your driver’s license on or before expiration of the temporary license. I am a commercial driver and my licence has expired. How can I renew it?

Everyone should first apply for a private license. Commercial drivers will subsequently have their licenses converted to a commercial license type. The drivers will be allowed to drive their commercial vehicles with the private licenses for the time being. More information on how to convert will be provided later.

If a New DL applicant fails driving test does he forfeit the application fee?

New DL Applicants have three (3) test attempts for every New DL application initiated. That is, the applicant will be allowed to retake the driving tests up to 3 times at an interval of 30days.

I initiated my renewal application on the internet. I have noticed mistakes in the information contained in the system, but I cannot correct the mistakes. How can I rectify the situation?

Changes to existing information can only be made from the licencing office. Please visit a licencing office before continuing with the application.

Ihave received preview page for renewal of my drivers licence but did not get any payment options or pay slip. what do i present to the bank for payment?
